Last week we got the first follow-up chapter to Jason Aaron’s “Wolverine in Hell” storyline with new artist Daniel Acuna. In my Quick Hits review I found this new story to be an interesting look at how Cyclops views the potential threat of having Logan on the X-Men, and I found Daniel Acuna’s artwork to be a nice change from the first arc of this series.

Marvel just sent us in this preview of what Aaron and Acuna have in store for us in Wolverine #7. No dialogue in these preview pages, but Daniel Acuna’s art looks pretty stunning to me. Take a look after the jump! — more

No one does alternate realities quite like the X-Men, from the classic “Days of Futures Past” to the “Age of Apocalypse”—though, I’d have to say, the Authority gave them some good competition while they were around—and here writer Mike Carey and artist Clay Mann team up to bring us a doozy of a tale featuring a dystopian alternate reality for mutantkind. You have to admire the way Carey dives right into the story with no preamble about where we are or how we got there. Some of the faces we see are instantly recognizable, others take some consideration and then hit you with the joy of recognition, and frankly that’s what makes this, the first chapter in “The Age of X”, so much fun. — more

After I finished reading the initial arc of Rick Remender’s newly launched Uncanny X-Force I was beyond elated at how this series had started out. The writing and characterization were both fantastic, and the art—from Jerome Opena—was some of the best, most original and consistent I’d seen in some time. But then that nagging question crept up in the back of my mind, “will this series be able to stay this good?” — more

As Rebel Rikki pointed out in his review yesterday of Justice League: Generation Lost #19 it’s always nice when a big plot-point—or, in the case of Justice League and this week’s issue of Spider-Man, a character death—can take you by surprise. Granted, the death in this issue is hardly a news-worthy event like the recent issue of Fantastic Four, but it was still a shock, worked well for a story and led to a rather satisfying character moment at the end of the issue. Now, am I going to tell you who bit the dust? Hell no, but I do want to talk about this issue. — more
