Trailer: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

The first teaser was OK. I was a little less than enthused. But now I am starting to get a little bit psyched for the new Mission Impossible. The full trailer has dropped and it goes into a little more detail, and gives us a glimpse into the kind of action we’ll be dealt. It looks big, full of way over-the-top explosions and of course, falling from great heights. That’s pretty much all anyone ask for in this kind of flick. Ghost Protocol is Brad Bird’s first foray into live action film and it looks like, from what we can see, he is taking the “whatever i can do in animation, I’ll sure as hell try it with actors too” approach. New Trailer: Hugo

on October 24, 2011

I’m getting pretty excited to see Hugo. I just missed a preview screening a few weeks back. Nevertheless, I’ve been hearing a good buzz building. I love me some Scorsese, and even though this looks like a mild family film, it looks chock full of engaging photography and acting. I think this is gonna be one of the good ones this holiday season. Garbage covers U2

on October 24, 2011

Remember these guys? I used to rip my buddy John for being into them so much, then I actually listened to them, and turns out they’re pretty damn good. Shirley and Butch have reformed and their first delivery is a cover of U2′s “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses.” It’s a damn good cover. Hit the jump to have a listen. — more

Michael Winslow (Police Academy) – Whole Lotta Love

This just absolutely blew my mind! Who doesn’t remember Michael Winslow from the ‘Police Academy’ movies? Not me, I loved that guy as a kid. But this, this is something else. The solo at the end left me catching flies. — more

Mastodon rip it up on Jools Holland

on October 19, 2011

When the end of the world arrives on 11-11-11, I’ll at least have a great soundtrack to the destruction. I’ll be watching favorite metal-meisters Mastodon bring down the stage at The Riviera in Chiccy-G. To tide me over, this clip of them performing ‘Black Tongue’ on Jools Holland does the trick. I particularly like the ode to Rhandy Rhoads on the bass drum.

New song from Rainer Maria’s Caithlin De Marrais – Birds

on October 18, 2011

I used to listen to the band Rainer Maria way too much just the right amount. I went to their last Chicago show at the Beat Kitchen. It was kinda sad, they were still so good. Lead singer and bassist extraordinaire, Caithlin De Marrais, has put out a few solo bits and pieces but nothing has captured my Cat Fancy until now. ‘Birds’ off her soon to be released album ‘Red Coats’ is not Rainer-esque, but is still absolutely brilliant. Listen and enjoy and go buy a Rainer Maria record while you are at it. Hit the jump for a stream — more

This may be the best tumblr I have seen in ages. Teenage Mutant Ninja Noses? Absolute Genius. And Secondly, this Star Wars mash-up poster is tremendous. There are others there too, but they mostly suck.

It’s Here: The Avengers Trailer

on October 11, 2011

I’m not going to lie to you, the first 15 seconds of this trailer make it look like this movie was directed by Michael Bay. After that initial scare, it gets a lot better. I am extremely pleased to see a lot of non super-hero interaction between the characters. Clearly, this isn’t a walk in the park, there are some huge egos at play here, Tony Stark I’m looking on your direction. And there is a lot of Downey Jr. in the trailer. It seems to me, with this first trailer, they want his sarcasm and wit to take center stage. I couldn’t get a great feel for how Ruffalo is going to play Bruce Banner, but from what we do see I trust he’ll do a great job. I could probably write an entire review based solely on this trailer, but I’ll let you guys handle that in the comments. Hit the jump to view the trailer. — more
