Back on the fourth episode of our podcast (before its fancy revamp), comics blogger Tom Foss came on the show to talk with us about his yearlong project, “Walking with Superman.” Conceived as a rewrite to the initially weak “Grounded” story running through the Man of Steel’s title, “WWS” finds Clark Kent on the trek across the United States which J. Michael Straczynski ought to have thought of. In daily paragraph-long entries reminiscent of Previews solicitations, Superman meets various allies and enemies and explores the crevices of the DC Universe in a really fun, compelling way.
Currently on day 291 of 365, “Walking with Superman” has almost reached the finish line. To celebrate the milestone 300th entry, Tom’s running a contest over on his blog this month. All you have to do is draw the cover that would accompany one of Tom’s many “Walking with Superman” stories. You could, for instance, craft the front piece to this:
It’s the double-sized conclusion to the Supergroup Saga! Clark Kent and his newly-named band, Freedom, have arrived in Boston, ready to take on The Man with the power of rock and roll. In order to get at the man behind the music, however, they’re going to have to outperform every sold-out musician and band on his label, from Carlos Sivana to Slade to Kobra Starship to Elinel and S6! Even if they manage to survive that musical assault, do they have what it takes to stand up to the sultan of swing, the king of rock, the emperor of emcees, the ambassador of soul, the maestro of music himself, the felonious Fiddler? Clark’s band finally has a name, but even with Bat Halen and Arrowsmith playing backup, do they have what it takes to go up against the nigh-omnipotent Fiddler and his symphonic prog-rock band Yz? Tonight, the fate of the world comes down to a single concert!
(I think that’s my favorite entry).
What can you win? The satisfaction of helping out a great comics blogger, of course. Oh, you want something tangible? In that case, Tom’s drawing from a sweet pile of goodies to send your way, which includes:
-All-Star Superman vols. 1-2 TPB
-Walking Dead vol. 1 TPB
-Freakazoid season 1 DVD
-and lots more!
For full contest details, visit his blog here. Please note that entries don’t have to be artistically sound, they just have to be creative.

After being inspired by some friends, for the past few years I’ve been really into documenting my musical exploration with year-end mixes. I realize this is not a particularly novel thing to do, but hey, who has original ideas any more? Anyway, this has gotten even easier to do thanks to new technology like Spotify. read more
