My pull list… 06/09/10

Nemesis #2

My pull list for June 9th, 2010

After the slow week in comic shops last week things get more exciting this week with a lot of good titles hitting the stands from both Marvel and DC.

Most notable this week is the 700th issue of Batman. After spending the last year detailing the adventures of Dick Grayson and Damien Wayne as they step into the roles of Batman & Robin in the issues of, well, Batman & Robin, writer Grant Morrison makes his return to the Dark Knight’s flagship title this month and he’s joined by such artists as Andy Kubert, Tony Daniel and Frank Quitely on an issue that features covers by David Finch and Mike Migolna. I for one am very excited about this issue (be warned though, this puppy carries a $4.99 cover price!), and here’s what DC has to say about it;

Grant Morrison returns to BATMAN with this oversized special! And he’s brought an all-star roster of artists along with him including Andy Kubert, Tony Daniel and Frank Quitely to celebrate this milestone 700th issue featuring stories spotlighting each of the Batmen from different eras – Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne. You won’t want to miss this blockbuster story that paves the way for the return of Bruce Wayne and sports mind-boggling covers by superstars David Finch (BRIGHTEST DAY) and Mike Mignola (BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT, Hellboy)!

On the Marvel side of things there are two releases that’ll be sitting on the top of my pile when I collapse on the couch tomorrow night. First up is the latest chapter in the “Second Coming” crossover that’s been running through the X-Men books with Uncanny X-Men #525. After taking a week off this crossover picks back up this week and it’ll be full steam ahead through the last arc of this three-month storyline that promises to bring exciting developments to the X-Universe.

Also this week is the highly anticipated second issue of Nemesis, the creator-owned project from writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven (the same team who brought you Civil War and Wolverine: Old Man Logan) put out by Marvel’s Icon imprint. The first issue was a lot of violent fun and I expect no less from this issue as we get further into the story of the world’s greatest super-criminal and the honest Washington D.C. cop he’s targeted.

Other books of note include;  Astonishing X-Men Xenogenesis #2 from writer Warren Ellis, Captain America #606, Invincible Iron Man #27 and Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #3. That’s what we’re looking forward to here at Nerdy Nothings, why not leave a comment and tell us what’s on your radar!
