My pull list… 06/16/10

Spider-Man #634

My pull list for June 16th, 2010

This week concludes Marvel’s reintroduction of their Avengers-related line of books with New Avengers #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and artist Stuart Immonen. With a new #1 for The Avengers as well as new books Secret Avengers and Avengers Academy, the popular New Avengers title gets refreshed as well, though by all appearances it looks like this picks up many of the threads where the previous New Avengers series left off, including the same creative team.

Here’s what Marvel has to say about this new issue:

Find out who the New Avengers are, where they call home (gotta see it to believe it!), which Dark Avenger has joined their ranks, and just who the interdimensional demonic threat to our existence is! These heroes have gathered to take on the threats too dark, too dangerous, and too bizarre for any other team of heroes. The New Avengers are back!! And Bendis & Immonen are back with the Siege & Secret Invasion colorista Laura Martin!! You didn’t really think Marvel was going to cancel their number one ongoing title did you? Heck no!! Backup feature: Another brand new oral history of the Avengers chapter by Bendis!

Also high on my list for this week is The Amazing Spider-Man #634. Actually, there are two issues of Amazing Spidey hitting this week with #633 wrapping up the recent “Shed” storyline featuring Spider-Man facing off against longtime foe, the Lizard (aka Curt Connors), from creative team Zeb Wells and Chris Bachello (one of my favorite artists in the industry today). #634 has my attention this week though as it kicks off a brand new thread entitled “The Grim Hunt,” which looks to build a long-running plot thread from the last year as the relatives of deceased villain Kraven take their first overt action against our favorite wall-crawler. Here’s Marvel’s solicitation:

GRIM HUNT PART 1: A SPIDER-MAN EPIC TWO DECADES IN THE MAKING BEGINS! Several years ago, one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, Kraven the Hunter, stalked his last prey, dying with a violent, misbegotten honor. Now, two women claiming to be his wife and daughter have tracked Spider-Man, through the urban jungle, weakening him through the Gauntlet while they prepare to attempt an unholy resurrection. They’re hunting Spiders…and Spider-Man’s friends and namesakes are in their sights. Written by Joe Kelly and drawn by Michael Lark (DAREDEVIL) this is only the beginning of a Spider-summer that will be talked about for years to come. ALSO BEGINNING THIS ISSUE: TWO EXCLUSIVE FEATURES! Original Spidey creator Stan Lee returns with Marcos Martin for a 2-page Spidey Sunday Feature that brings the real world into Spidey’s world! PLUS: J.M. DeMatteis, author of the classic “Kraven’s Last Hunt” returns to the Amazing Spider-Man with Max Fiumara to explore an unknown confrontation between Kraven and Spidey’s violent doppelganger KAINE…a battle which promises ramifications on the Grim Hunt itself.

And don’t forget to check out New Mutants #14 as “Second Coming” continues and Ultimate Comics X #3 as Jeph Loeb and Art Adams continue to redefine Marvel’s mutants for in the “Ultimate” universe.
