Ahh, the end of summer! As temps start to drop, usually so does the quality of the films being released in theaters. Before the big contenders start the drop, studios feel obligated to dump the rest. But can September of 2011 prove to have some films we’ll hear about around award season? — more

Trailer: The Rum Diary

HST is a hero of mine, and ‘The Rum Diary’ is a brilliant work. Hunter wrote the semi-autobiographical work of fiction when he was quite young. But it’s still chock full of hard-drinking, drugs, guns and wit found in his later writing. It feels like I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. The trailer isn’t blowing me away, but I have a strong feeling. it’ll work better when it’s all tied up together. Anyway, hit the jump to let the debauchery begin. — more

Trailer: Carnage

Polanski’s latest features a slew of talent: John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster & Kate Winslet star as couples meeting to discuss a schoolyard fight between their children. The trailer reminds me of one of my all time favorites, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. The Winslet freak-out looks like it’ll be an instant classic. Hit the jump for the trailer. — more

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas 3D trailer

HKXMAS

I love a good Christmas movie! This is coming from the guy who saw Jingle All The Way in the theater. Yeah, so, I must REALLY like Christmas movies. But hey this actually looks funny, in a “this is so terrible I can’t help but laugh” kind of way. Never saw the Guantanamo one, but loved the original, and this looks pretty much like I expected/hoped. I love the gratuitous use of 3D and you have to root for a movie where Santa gets shotgunned out of the sky, right? — more

First Photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

A lot of people have been waiting to find out what Anne Hathaway looks like as the iconic villainess Catwoman — wait no more. I am inclined to believe this shot is of her in a motorcycle jump suit rather than the actual costume. It’s hard to tell the context in which this photo was taken, but it is entirely possible that Nolan is going for a more realistic cat burglar look, than an actual catwoman. What are your thoughts? Embiggened after the jump. — more

First Glimpse of Your New Superman

On the heels of the casting of Perry white we have our first look at the new Superman. And guess what, he looks like Superman! I have been pretty vocal about my opinions on this new iteration of Superman and from the tone of this image it looks like they are definitely going, gritty, dark and more Nolan-esque. Its hard to argue against this choice since Nolan has made the most profitable Superhero franchise with his rebooting of Batman. But, something tells me its not going to work as well with our man in red tights. Hit the jump to see the image larger. — more

Summer Movie Preview: August

summer-preview-august-1

on August 03, 2011

Now that the big blockbusters are out of the way, the final month of the summer season will bring us some smaller-scale and less anticipated films. Will this make August a month to forget or one with some secret horror, comedy and action gems? It may not be award season quite yet, but August looks like it will be a bridge between the two movie seasons. — more

We Have a New Perry White

Laurence-Fishburn

on August 03, 2011

Laurence Fishburne will don the news cap in the latest version of superman. Laurence has always struck me as a cool cat, not a tempered actor. It must be hard for him to shed his image as Morpheus. I am not 100% jazzed up for this entire movie, but I do like that they’re going unconventional in this casting choice.

WTF: The trailer for Battleship

battleship

on July 27, 2011

I reserved judgement on the ludicrously high-concept Battleship movie until now because I like Peter Berg. He has made some good films. But to base a movie on the abysmally simple and completely boring board game of the same name seemed, to me, pointless and reaching even by Hollywood standards. Well, this trailer proves that Hollywood has derailed — big time. It’s so bad that it makes me actually angry. Angry that films like this piece of junk are getting made while Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘At the Mountains of Madness’ sit in development hell. For chrissakes the aliens are actually shooting the pegs from the board game at the battleship? Seriously? Hit the jump to watch this atrocity. — more

If you were the person who didn’t go see Harry potter this weekend, then you missed the teaser for The Dark Knight Rises. But we have it for you now. It shows a lot more than I thought it would, which isn’t much, but that doesn’t inhibit the goosebump factor at all. Hit the jump to stream. — more
