First Look at Colin Farrell in Total Recall

on July 15, 2011

I am very on board for this remake, its an excellent story and if done properly could be a fantastic Bladerunner-esque sci-fi action thriller. Though I do enjoy the first, it’s effects have become dated and it can come off campy and jokey. I haven’t heard if they’re remaking the movie, or trying for a completely original take on the source material. Anyway, here’s a first look at Colin Farrell and it’s not super exciting, he looks, well, like Colin Farrell. But i just want to start spreading the word on this one, I have a good feeling. thanks to playlist for the heads up. — more

New Scorsese: Hugo Trailer

on July 15, 2011

Scorsese does a 3D family film and let me say it looks really, really cool. I’m a huge Scorsese fan, so I’ll check out just about anything he attaches his name to, and at first I was disappointed he was taking on such light fare, but after watching this trailer, I’m stoked. Trailer: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

The trailer for Guy Ritchie’s latest is here. There was a time when Guy Ritchie was breaking all the rules, doing things with a camera we had never seen before, and then he married Madonna and it all went away. Seemingly refreshed and sans Material Girl he reverted to his old self with RocknRolla and the Holmes films. But in A Game of Shadows he seems to be re-hashing the same old tricks, granted they’re very cool tricks and the movie looks amazing photography-wise, I can’t quite tell what distinguishes this film from the first. Catch the trailer after the jump. — more

Summer Movie Preview: July

on July 01, 2011

Summer 2010 proved to be an absolute flop by many’s standards and so Hollywood has responded by giving us a lot of the same. This means sequels, remakes and adaptations up the wazoo. Will Hollywood miss the mark again? July sees one of the most anticipated films of the summer, the last big super hero movie and — more

OK, it’s not much, but it’s something. In this video, shot by a bystander, we can see Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale engaged in a seemingly heated exchange in a fake downpour. After the take, Nolan trudges in with an umbrella to add his two cents. Hit the jump for the video. — more

Trailer: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

on June 28, 2011

This looks very Mission Impossibly… meaning, it looks pret-ty, pret-ty much like the other three but this time with more… everything—I suppose. I dig that we get Simon Pegg but this trailer doesn’t have me overly jazzed. I will see it, and I liked the others just fine, but I was hoping they were going to hit me something totally new. But it seems we have just another “don’t trust anyone until you can trust that special someone” plot from all the others. Hit the jump to stream the teaser. — more

Watch it Now: Spike Jonze’s ‘Scene from the Suburbs’

on June 27, 2011

‘Scenes from the Suburbs’ is Spike Jonze’s short film based on the Arcade Fire album ‘The Suburbs.’ The film was co-written by Win Butler and his brother Will. The movie will be officially released on the deluxe version of the album August 2, but it’s streaming over at MUBI today and tomorrow only. Spike Jonzes last short film, ‘I’m Here‘ was pretty amazing, and I am always down for a darker look at the white underbelly of tranquil suburbia. — more

New Captain America Trailer

on June 23, 2011

Some days I am super pumped for Captain America, and other times I feel like it’s going to stink like a bag of moldy bananas. Maybe it’s the Wolfman flashbacks that spontaneously invade my brain like a bad acid trip. God that was an awful movie. Joe Johnston did direct October Sky and that was pretty damn fantastic. In the end it’s Captain America, and I remember running around with a star-covered shield and a blue and red big wheel when i was a tot, so there’s not much convincing needed. Hit the jump for the latest trailer. P.S. Did they go a bit overboard in making Chris Evans look scrawny, it looks like he weighs all of 25 pounds in the beginning of this trailer. — more

Haters gonna Hate: Green Lantern vs. The Critics

on June 22, 2011

If you only get your movie reviews from Nerdy Nothings (and why wouldn’t you?) you’d be convinced that Green Lantern is one of the best films of the summer, courtesy of Rebel Rikki’s glowing review. If you then looked, well, anywhere else, you would be utterly confused, sad and alone. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Green Lantern (25% fresh) is one of the worst reviewed films of the summer. Worse than the likes of Ghost Rider (27% fresh), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (37% fresh), X-Men: The Last Stand (57% fresh), Daredevil (45% fresh), both The Punisher (29% fresh) and Punisher: War Zone (27% fresh) AND Blade Trinity (26% fresh). That’s some sad company. Why the hate? — more
