Quick Hits: iZombie #12 and more…

iZombie #12: Regular series artist Mike Allred takes a break here to let some newcomer named Gilbert Hernandez handle penciling duties. Obviously, then, this book looks great; I’m glad that Vertigo was able to substitute out one legendary artist for another. It helps that Mike’s wife Laura continues to color the series, which helps this book blend with the usual iZombie aesthetics. The story also makes sharp use of its fill-in issue status; it looks back in time to tell the story of how Ellie the Ghost first met our protagonist, Gwen. — more

Quick Hits: Reviews of Wolverine #5 and more…

Wolverine #5

on January 22, 2011

Wolverine #5: There it is on the cover, “conclusion,” but I’m not sure anything got wrapped up here. Sure Logan has made his way out of hell—and I gotta admit, I did enjoy the suprise of who has now siezed the reins down there—but we’ve learned very little about the mysterious Red Right Hand and why they’re after Wolverine. No doubt the next arc will drive right into these issues. This first arc was decent enough, though I would’ve enjoyed a more unique view of hell, rather than the same cliches of brimstone and torture we always see. There were a few suprises but nothing that I felt warranted a brand new series and the cancellation of Wolverine: Weapon X. — more

Quick Hits: Reviews of Knight & Squire #4 and more…

Knight & Squire #4

on January 13, 2011

Knight and Squire #4: Paul Cornell and Jimmy Broxton have delivered the best issue of this series yet. Cyril works on improving the artificial intelligence in his Knight armor while Beryl goes on a date with a possible supervillain. Things go awry when the Knight’s suit comes to life and judges Cyril to be an evil duplicate. This issue features a perfect blend of action and humor with just a hint of emotional gravity. It also introduces us to Hank Hackenbacker, Cyril’s American butler. — more

Ricky Gervais on Curb Your Enthusiasm

Riccky Gervais

I found a picture of Ricky Gervais and Larry David from the upcoming season 8 of Curb Your Enthusiasm on Ricky’s blog. I don’t know how big a part Ricky’s character has in the new season, but let’s hope it’s a recurring role. It doesn’t look like his character and Larry are exactly chums. Whenever season 8 starts, it’s not soon enough. Michael J. Fox has also been spotted on the set. Sweet.

In honor of the Mad Men season premiere here’s Zach Galifianakis interviewing Jon Hamm. While searching for this clip on funny or die, I got sucked into watching the whole series of interviews again. They’re way addictive.
